The German-born director/producer Uwe Boll is reviled by many movie fans and critics and often comes up as a candidate for one of the worst directors working today (Michael Bay says, "Hey! Don't forget about me.") His films include "Bloodrayne," "Postal," and "Alone in the Dark." This awkwardly titled movie is his fantasy adventure epic, clearly trying to capture some of the "Lord of the Rings" magic, but mostly evoking cheesy 80s swords and sorcery movies like "Conan," "Willow," and "Beastmaster." Somehow, he assembled a pretty respectable cast, including Jason Statham, Ray Liotta (totally out of place), Leelee Sobieski, Ron Pearlman, Matthew Lillard (awful), and Burt Reynolds, who is hilariously miscast and whose expression seems to say "What am I doing here?" As ridiculous as it is, it's bad enough to be entertaining so it gets 2 stars from me. Based on a video game.
