“You know, people come to Italy for all sorts of reasons, but when they stay, it’s for the same two things… Love and gelato.” This romantic coming of age book is such an amazing read. I honestly couldn’t put it down! When Lina’s mother passed away, her wish was for Lina to go to Italy to meet her father but when she’s there, she discovers much more than she could have ever imagined. This trip changed Lina’s life forever. She learned so much about her mother as well as herself. I also liked the mysterious setting where Lina was just thrown into a life where she had no prior knowledge. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes mysterious but sweet books. 5/5 @butterflyreads of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board After her mom passed away from pancreatic cancer, Lina goes to Italy as per her mother’s request. There, she finds a journal belonging to her mother back when she was only 20. As Lina explores this mysterious and romantic country, she learns not only of how her mother’s choices have impacted her future, but how her own choices will too. This is a heartfelt novel that would make readers grin in delight. It was very emotional for both Lina and us, readers, to experience the life of Lina’s mother and to get to know the story of not just one inspiring lady, but two. There was a good mix of romance into the overall plot but Lina’s self-exploration and discovery was the main focus. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to those who want to experience the magical country known as Italy with a bit of love and a whole lot of gelato. Rating: 4.5/5 @Iron_Rose of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch is a simple and romantic novel that is perfect for anyone in the mood for a cheesy and slightly adventurous story. Lina travels to Italy to live with her father who was absent her entire life as her mother’s last dying wish. Although Italy is known for its rustic beauty, Lina isn’t there for the “love and gelato,” but instead, she uncovers the life of her twenty-something mother when she lived in Italy from the journal she left behind. Lina is fascinated with the life her mother lived and the secrets that she never knew before, and goes on adventures with her new friend, Ren. I rate this book a 3/5 and recommend it to ages 11 and up. - @ilovefood of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library This book is simply wonderful and is unlike any other. “Love & Gelato” is a beautiful romance novel that intertwines the story of Lina and her mom.
