Tracie Peterson is one of my go-to authors. In Beyond the Silence, her partnership with Kimberley Woodhouse raised my standards of her books. Beyond the Silence is a wonderful story about Lillian Porter, a young woman who fights to break through the ignorance and net of privilege and safety her grandfather has imposed on her. Lillian is a great character, although I think she handled things a little too well, a little too smoothly, all things considered. She gets angry, but she never really exhibits fear or lack of self-confidence, which I would imagine might be the case for someone so protected as a child. Also, we never really understand why she is so qualified to be the young boy's nanny.... Be that as it may, I really enjoyed this book. The characters are genuine and endearing, the action keeps the pace going nicely, and I enjoyed seeing things from the various perspectives. Although having more than 3 perspectives can be burdensome in some novels, Peterson and Woodhouse made it work in this one. I enjoyed the characters growth in faith, and how some difficult subjects were dealt with. I hope Peterson and Woodhouse team up again!
