I purposely avoided Cisneros's "The House on Mango Street", because it was on my daughter's middle-school reading list. I still have no plans to read it...but thoroughly enjoyed this memoir. Culturally educational, from the perspective of a female in a Mexican-American family. Cisneros comes across as ambitious, independent and intelligent. She wandered the globe to fulfill her dreams of writing, making her homes in many interesting places. I enjoy books about books, and this writing provided several threads which I intend to follow, authors whom I have yet to read.
