This book is absolutely amazing. A.G. Howard is a master story teller. It is a revamp of Lewis Caroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"; actually more of a sequel of sorts. The story is a little more dark, twisted, and sultry, but most importantly very imaginative. It takes a couple of chapters to set up, and for me to feel invested, but once the story gets moving the words literally dance off the page and fill your imagination with wonderfully seductive imagery, albeit a little on the noir side. The plot is an interesting take on the descendants of Alice Lidell with an intriguing twist, and the character development is extremely convincing even with in a "fantasy" world. Alyssa grows and I found myself sympathetic at times and definitely invested in her as a person. Mostly for me, even in the world of Wonderland, the characters seemed so real, and that made me care about them. The ending is a little happy ever after, but I suppose that is true of most "fairy tales." However, at the same time, it leaves open to our imagination what could possibly come next for the characters in the future. For a first novel, I am extremely impressed by A.G Howard, and I hope with all my heart that she will publish more stories in the future. I'm hooked, and I will certainly read other novels if she puts them out. Outstanding job, Mrs. Howard, and I thank you! 5 stars, and highly recommended by this reader.
