I felt a need to read this book because my family is from Ireland, and I'm so glad I did! It gives a very real feel to Irish society in the mid-1800s, and it definitely felt like I was right there going through everything with Phyllis. I think it's probably meant to be reader by a younger audience, but I didn't find it too bad (disclaimer: it's pretty short, maybe a day's worth of reading at most).
