You had a one-woman discussion within your head and solved everything.
===
How's your new place shaping up?
- Great, although my landlady's very keen that I marry her nephew.
Consider it! Long engagement. You can save on rent.
===
Heat is simply a state of mind. The human body is perfectly adapted to deal with it. If you wish to be cool, you simply have to believe.
===
There's only one cure for cold feet. Hold them to the fire.
===
The only thing a doctor likes better than being right is proving another doctor wrong.
===
Sometimes it's hard being a man in a woman's world. Being born with a penis is a huge disadvantage.
===
There's a fine line between confidence and arrogance, Dr Walker.
===
I love my son. I must make sure he knows that.
===
Only a fool wants to be happy. And you're nobody's fool, I think.

Every father loves their children. Nobody needs to shout it from the rooftops.
===
Never let the truth get in the way of a good story,
===
So, you finally lost your virginity. Your first solo operation. That makes you a real surgeon.
===
I'm not an easy person.
-I know! It's a significant part of your charm.
You could do better. Well, not better, obviously. Simpler.
- I know that, too.

One good thing about going out with a doctor, I suppose. Instant treatment.
-You'd think so, wouldn't you? She just says it ruins the magic. Especially if it's anything to
do with my nether regions.
- Women, eh?
===
Mind you, when I first met her, I pretended to be all mean and moody. You know, James Dean kind of thing? Every time she spoke to me I'd just grunt. Light up a fag.
- How did that work out?
She went out with my best mate for two years.
===

If you're going to keep stealing electricity you need a circuit breaker. Something to cut the power when a surge comes through.
- And who's going to pay for that?
===
- AJ, life is only boring if you get caught.
===
Do you know, you can tell how many hours of daylight left by putting your fingers flat to the horizon like this? Each finger is about 15 minutes. Give or take. Have I just ruined a lovely moment by being boring?
-No. No, it's fine. I'm in the mood for boring.

When I was a kid in Mumbai, there was this lamppost outside our front door. It was like a spider's web of electric cables. When it rained, sparks would shoot out all over the street.
-You grew up in Mumbai?
Yes, in Dharavi. It's like a city within a city.
- Like a slum?
Mm-hm.

===
So, is that one a demon?
-No, he's a god.
That's why he saved the princess from the snake in the forest.
- How do you know that?
I read the story last night.
===
All right, Sherlock-sodding-Holmes, you're right. I didn't want to see this stupid theatre thing. I didn't want to wander around a temple in 100-degree heat. And I didn't want to catch a boat to a bloody
ashram. These are things that Maggie wanted to do. Things we were going to do together but we never had the time. There, I've said it.
-Now what?
Exactly.

Have you heard of oxytocin?
-No. Should I?
They call it the love hormone. When these children are born, your
system will be flooded with it. It's nature's way of bonding you with your babies.
===
You went to a Buddhist temple and an ashram?
- I've got a cultured side, you know?
Yeah, I've heard you get out of the bath to do a wee. I thought you came here to relax?
- I did.
Get yourself settled in because there's plenty more where that came from.
- I'm not stopping long, I've got a busy day tomorrow.
Yeah, what you up to?
-I'm going to a festival of Kathakali theatre.
Kathakali, seriously? Don't get me wrong, some people love a bit of Hindu performance art but I can't see you being one of them.
===
If I say no to you, you will be, what was your phrase? "An unbelievable pain in the backside."

Vettu cake?
- Deep fried balls of deliciousness.
Or a heart attack waiting to happen, depending on your world view.
- And capacity for joy.
===
There are ways of dealing with underlying problems in the body.
-Oh, yes, the balance of spiritual energy that supposedly affects everything from diabetes to cancer. Come on! You were a medic. You can't possibly believe in all this stuff?
You know, I worked in a hospital in Chennai for 10 years. I've seen things that defy conventional teaching.
- So have I. A freak occurrence and coincidence doesn't mean you have to believe in fairies.
I believe in whatever works for my patients. Not just the medicine
but the whole process. In the hospital I would have to see 30-40
patients a day. But here I can give them time. Sit and actually talk to them.
-All of which sounds lovely until you get a waiting room full of trauma victims and infectious diseases.

Makar Sankranti. Which means today all good citizens let go of past sadness and embrace new beginnings. So basically it's a chance to
put all the bad stuff behind us and start again.
===
True bloody love... and it's yours to keep. Which makes you the luckiest man I know. Luckiest man standing here, anyway.
===
I'll always be waiting for you. There's no rush. No rush at all.
- I'm being a fool, Maggie.
Yes.
===
Last year, I was very sick. I had breathing problems, fainting spells, I almost passed out. I went to see a doctor and they did nothing. Nothing at all. Things got worse until I couldn't even leave the house. And then Dr Anila came to see me and within days I was back on my feet.
- Right, I don't suppose you remember the name of this doctor who did nothing at all, do you?
Oh, yes. It was you.
===
When women of a certain age find out a man's a widower, they come round bearing gifts. Namely casseroles. I've been fighting them off in the driveway.

Cats. Women. Think they'll do one thing. Usually do something else.
===
You could start again. Move to another part of the country.
-My home is here.
Home is somewhere you should feel safe.
===
Your mother was educated and financially independent.
-So?
She could survive by herself.
- She didn't have a choice.
For a poor family in India, with serious debt, it would be a very different story.
===
You had her scalp in your hand.
-Occasionally things get physical. We have a fiery relationship. But domestic abuse? Come on now. I've scraped enough women off the
floor to know the difference.
===
I delved into my innermost psyche, by which I mean I downed three pints, watched women's volleyball on Sky Sports and I realised... I realised... I was jealous. Because I know you'll never feel lost without me.
-Oh. You're right. I don't NEED you. I don't NEED anyone. But I choose to be with you. Isn't that enough?

You've got to let him grieve in his own way. Otherwise you'll end up pushing him away when he needs you most.
===
My husband drinks away his wages and I have never complained.
Because I have never had a choice. But if you report Krish, if you rob my son of his future, then my whole life will have been in vain.
===
Maggie was reading this when she died. Proper whodunit. Only I can't bring myself to read beyond the page she bookmarked. Cos to go on without her feels like a betrayal of some kind. I thought maybe it'd help doing all the stuff we never had time for. Just makes me miss her more. When I'm on my own I want to be with other people. When I'm with other people I want to be on my own. I'm like that bird, flies around in ever-decreasing circles till it disappears up its own arse.
-Don't be that bird. It's mythical. Doesn't actually exist.

He's HH.
-That explains it. Bombay blood group, as rare as they come.
===
Kindness to strangers is a part of the celebration of Utsava.
- Oh, right. Well, thank you very much, love.
Please come. Each temple has its own unique traditions. Here we honour Lord Vishnu with processions and dancing. It's very beautiful.
- If you like that kind of thing.
You don't?
- We have a saying back in England. "Take it or leave it." That's kind
of how I feel about Hindu festivals.
===

How are you feeling? You all right?
- Like I've gone ten rounds with the world champion heavyweight.
===
Your mother deserved a real man. You deserved a real father. And I was neither of those things.
===
Since millennia, people have believed the pineal gland is where the immortal soul resides. Everybody from Hindus to Descartes. That's where God lives amongst all of us.

They made idiot men fight each other, whereas we just fall in love with the tiniest scrap of humanity.

Wonderful entertainment, full of color, colorful characters, and witty dialogue. Looking forward to Season 3. Makes me wonder though if people in Indian towns actually do all speak as if they were educated at Oxford.

Continuing story of Ruby, an English doctor with family roots in India who moves there to practice at the Good Karma Hospital. Ruby continues her journey of self-discovery. In series two, she meets her father who abandoned the family when she was young. Other emotional stories are played out with Ruby's boss (Amanda Redman -New Tricks) who is asked by the founder of the hospital to assist in the latter's suicide. Good acting and script , but can get a little maudlin at times.

Wonderful just like the series One. Amanda Redman is a force of beauty and intelligence (she looks like a lion with those eyes). I hope this series and Redman in particular win lots of awards. Colorful India (really Sri Lanka I think) is gorgeous!

Reviewed the notes from S1 and found similar topics as romances, end of life, being doctors, second chances, lost expats, and festivals. Added themes in S2 were the origin of the Hospital and its name (see "Quotes"), homosexuality, familial bonds, motherhood, companionship, marriage, friendship and recovery from great loss (the living and dead on end of life.) The romances were too soapy at times but highly entertaining all the same. Look forward to S3.

I don't remember season one making me cry. Apparently season two had better writers.
