This time Sheriff Joanna Brady may expect to see her maternity leave through to completion, but the world has other plans when a serial homicide case surfaces in her beloved Cochise County. Rather than staying home with her newborn and losing herself in the cold cases to be found in her father's long unread diaries, Joanna instead finds herself overseeing a complex investigation involving multiple jurisdictions.

I always enjoy J.A Jance’s books. They are sort of like adult Nancy Drew mysteries, lots of blood and creepy stuff but you know everything will be okay in the end. It also gave me a perspective into the border immigration issue and how it impacts states facing the crisis.

If you like J.A. Jance , then you will enjoy this novel. New Joanna Brady novels are rare, so it is always good to catch up with her and her family. This time, as a mother with a new baby, she is hardly involved in the pursuit of the killer, but does what she can from home, and the office when she can get there.
The tale is serviceable and recommended for the faithful.

I am a huge fan of J. A. Jance and I enjoy the stories of the Joanna Brady series, but Joanna Brady is my least favorite main character created by Jance. She is just so emotionless. She tries so hard to be professional, to live up to her late father and her late husband she has lost all sense of emotion. Even in regard to her young son and newborn daughter, she seems to think of them and love them from a great distance, which is rather ironic because since Joanna Brady novel #1 that's EXACTLY of what Joanna thought about her mother toward her. That said, 'Field of Bones' brought me to or near tears several times. Of course, not by Joanna Brady and the way she equally handles all aspect of her life distressingly clinically, but by a compelling victim who drew us in and allowed us to feel every moment of her emotions.

4 stars, but hey, Joanna, lighten up ... or at least have some kind of breakdown to become interesting rather than clinically detached and aloof.

I looked forward to reading Field of Bones and the opportunity to catch up with long-time friends Sheriff Brady, her family, and deputies. I was not disappointed.

As with other comments, this was a fast-paced and exciting story - trying to apprehend a serial killer for his horrific deeds. Suspenseful and a true page-turner

Borrowed from my daughter and couldn't put it down. It now goes on my completed list. Jean G. Smith

I enjoyed this book very much. The series is well written and this is one of the best in the series. It is extremely well developed and I also enjoy the details about the sheriff's family side as well as her professional side. There are also "extras" thrown in, including information on her father, a previous sheriff, and his diaries.

I love and enjoy all of JA Jance books. This book was by far my most favourite! It was gripping right from the first page. I generally enjoy a novel over a 2 week period, I couldn’t put this book down. I read it twice in less than a week.

Another pretty good book in JA Jance's Joanna Brady series. Mostly dealing with the central character's maternity leave, she also has to delegate authority while a major crime blows up in her county. All in all, another enjoyable Brady mystery.

J.A. Jance hits it out of the park in this latest Joanna Brady installment. It is simply amazing how much she crams into this book AND makes us love Sheriff Brady even more than we did already. There is, of course, murder (specifically a serial killer) and so much more. The book begins with election night, careens into childbirth and then we have a multiple perspectives including the acting sheriff, a young deputy, a kidnapped girl and the perp. Along the way we get insights on working in law enforcement, being a forgotten girl, dealing with a newborn and maternity leave, stalking prey, living in captivity, and so much more. I do have to take a tiny bit of a star off for the fact that the only librarian in the book makes a nasty pass at Butch! Surely he ran into some nice librarians on his book tour??? He would have if he came to our library!
