Along with “Prometheus,” this film scratches the bottom. While there are some nice landscapes shots and the ships are pretty neat, it really just tries to rehash the original “Alien” movie (which is one of my favorites and, IMO, the only good film Ridley Scott has made) sans the strong leads.

While this is no alien or aliens, this movie was definitely better than 3 and resurrection.

It seems most comments here should be under Prometheus and not covenant. Covenant just didn't live up to the rest, perhaps because so many people who worked on the others are no longer working. This film was so predictable with illogical characters who seem to freak out min by min. In addition the loss of a strong female lead really changed the story line. Save your time and rewatch the others

Prometheus is a film to own and watch several times. It sparked more conversations with friends than any other genre film I've watched in the last decade. Covenant is in no way an equal. The inherent problem is that this film is the middle of the story, so you are "set up" with Prometheus and then have to wait for the end of the story in Part 3 of this film arc. Listen to Scott's commentary track after you watch the film. You'll get a better sense of what he was trying to achieve. Now we all have to wait for the pay-off in the next film to ultimately judge the story.

I thought this movie should have been better, considering it's part of the Alien franchise. But there was some cool action in it.

“Prometheus 2012” was a 4 of 5 star watch for me and this one is nearly as good. Fassbender reprised as a “calculating” synthetic android in this sequel but without Rapace, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron. Mostly, agree with mr_chocolate’s comments but felt that the plot could have hinged on some accident or logical twist (how about doping by David?) rather than frequent foolish decisions that led to a sinister future of the colonization ship Covenant .

Prometheus introduced several new concepts to the Alien franchise and is probably my least favourite, but this sequel makes a concerted effort to bridge with the earlier films that follow it. Unfortunately, a gestational period of an hour or so is not credible and the result of David's work/hubris seems to be branching off. I think we have to expect a sequel to this.

I liked it better than Prometheus. But I do highly recommend watching Prometheus first.

I watched this because I highly respect director Ridley Scott and actor Michael Fassbender, but I really doubted that much new of substance could be added after the first two Aliens. I was right. After the first few shocking killings, the remainder were kinda' repetitive. The ending was almost a copy of the ending of "life." The "Life" with Jake Gyllenhaal, not the film about James Dean.

I though this film started out slowly and didn't live up to the promise of Prometheus. I was hoping for more backstory on the "Engineers".

Many quotes in IMDb. This is from prologue:

Walter: All these wonders of art... design, human ingenuity... All utterly meaningless in the face of the only question that matters. Where do we come from? I refuse to believe that mankind... is a random by-product of molecular circumstance. No more than the result of... Mere biological chance. No. There must be more. And you and I, son, we will find it.
David: Allow me then a moment to consider. You seek your creator. I am looking at mine. I will serve you, yet you're human. You will die, I will not.
