Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods, on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, with the woman sitting inside-- the woman who was killed. What could she have done, really? Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. But since then, she's been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn't have a baby. The only thing she can't forget is the woman she might have saved, and the terrible guilt. Or the silent calls she's receiving, or the feeling that someone's watching her....

From someone who has about a million different things going on at any given time and who finds themselves often asking "Did I..?"/"I could've sworn I..."/"I did that?" - this book will make you question yourself and everything you're reading as the story progresses. It's an edge of your seat psychological thriller revolving around the murder of a local woman, whom the main character later realizes she had lunch with a couple of weeks ago. As the main character has increasingly disturbing lapses of memory, she quickly spirals downward toward a "breakdown". The book will drag you into its depths of "Did I...?"

Good book. Was a bit repetitive in the middle but, the ending made the book worthwhile.

Her first novel, 'Behind Closed Doors' was brilliant and I predicted her sophomore effort wouldn't be able to rise to that high standard. I was prescient and this must rank as an amateurish effort not because of the lack of forensics but a huge narrative error and a ghastly stupid mistake by the killer. Unfortunately, with a first person narrative and use of the unreliable narrator technique moving into Holly Seddon territory, this was destined not to be a memorable B. A. Paris effort. The first three-quarters is agonizingly slow and the denouement is then ejected like a sailor's vomit on rough seas which as a reader you're forced to sift through.

I listened to this as a downloadable audio and it was hard to stop. Had a good surprising twist at the end.

pretty good book, author takes ya on a little bit of wild goose chase, however it seems to be dragged out a little too much. I enjoyed his Behind Closed Doors book much better.

This book was okay but totally predictable. It's not really worth the time.

Almost gave up halfway through..it seemed to go on and on...glad I hung in there. Unexpected ending I didn't see coming.

I must say that the first half of the book is very repetitive and kind of boring because the main character has dementia, she keeps forgetting things and the story doesn’t go on. I kept reading because the reviews of this book were good! Then, in the second half, I could understand why it’s so good! The book twists a lot and everything makes sense and it becomes a good suspense! I hope that on her third book the first half can be more interesting!

I loved this book just as much as Behind Closed Doors. There were some parts of the ending that I did anticipate but overall the ending caught me off guard! Great story -- highly recommend if you like psychological thrillers.
