Great story. Mother finds daughter after 17 years of separation - happy days right. Wrong !! Nothing goes as expected and even goes completely off the rails. An ending that you would never have suspected. Interesting characters and well done story that will keep you up reading well into the night. Scotoline always delivers a good tale and she hit this one out of the park.

Excellent family thriller. I enjoyed the alternating chapters telling two parts of the story. Lisa Scottoline is excellent.

Although the author writes strong legal series, this standalone novel captures your attention from the beginning. Maggie and Noah have married, each for the second time. All appears well until Anna enters the picture. She is Maggie's teenage daughter, who was taken from her in infancy, by Maggie's then-husband who had her declared an unfit parent. When Anna's father dies suddenly, Maggie and Anna are reunited after years of estrangement. So far, so good. The rest you will need to read on your own. To tell you more would be a spoiler. This is a fast-paced, suspenseful novel that does not let up. Each chapter is headed either by Maggie or Noah, before or after Anna. This is a very effective style of writing because it sheds light on both sides of the story. Read this book and you will be astounded. Predictable it is not.

6/5 stars
Another suspense filled thriller by Lisa Scottoline that I couldn't put down until I finished it!
Dr. Noah Alderman, his son Caleb, and wife Maggie Ippoliti are living life in harmony when Maggie gets a call from the daughter, Anna Desroches, she was forced to give up seventeen years before.
Anna manipulates everyone driving a wedge between Noah & Maggie with her lies.
The story is revealed in short chapters alternating between "Noah, After" and "Maggie, Before" each ending on a cliff hanger.
Maggie and her BFF Kathy Gallagher go on a search for the truth and the stakes are deadly.
Topics include postpartum psychoses, boarding schools and others I can't list without spoiling the plot.
A spring 2018 must read!!!

Another twisty family thriller.

I have been a Scottoline fan for years, but have largely been disappointed in her standalone titles. This one is a lovely surprise. Maggie gets a second chance to be a mother to her daughter Anna and is ecstatic to have her husband Noah and his son Caleb meet their new family member. Things begin to go awry almost immediately. We see the story first from Maggie's POV beginning at the beginning and from Noah's POV as he is standing trial for Anna's murder. This book is difficult to put down as you watch the two timelines converge and wonder how this family can ever go back to the peace they had before Anna. Recommended for fans of legal thrillers.
