SUMMARY: This is the blurb as advertised: "From carolers to snowmen to stars, everyone's favorite Christmas characters sing, shiver, and shine their way through the North Pole in this festive holiday twist on the beloved nursery rhyme 'Over in the Meadow.' "

ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations were created in watercolor. They are soft and fuzzy giving them a Christmasy feeling while also very colorful.

REVIEW: I have to admit, I didn't get this book at first and was going to lower the stars until I read that it is a rendition of the nursery rhyme "Over in the Meadow." I have never heard of this nursery rhyme, so I listened to a version of it online, and suddenly this book made so much more sense! At first glance, the story feels non-linear and random. The language also felt strange as the father mouse says "Nibble!" and the little mice answer, "We nibble." Reading the book a second time, with the nursery rhyme song in my head, made this book a completely different experience. I highly recommend you do the same if you don't know the nursery rhyme. If you can sing this story as well, you will double the enjoyment. Then it becomes a fun Christmas romp!

AGE RECOMMENDATION: Advertised for ages 4-8, but I think toddlers will enjoy it as well if you sing it to them.
