"Toni has always had nightmares about fire, and she also has burn scars but no idea how she got them. So when fire destroys the orphanage she has grown up in, she is ready to make her way to Toronto, where she hopes to discover the truth about the mother she believes hurt and then abandoned her. Toronto proves to be both daunting and exciting for Toni, whose charm and innocence attract attention, not always positive, wherever she goes. Buoyed by the music she hears at the folk club where she finds a job, and encouraged by her glamorous landlady, Toni unearths shocking information that contradicts everything she believes and makes her re-evaluate what she feels for all the new people in her life."-

Teresa Toten came to my school a few weeks ago, introducing this book to the intermediates. (It was awesome! She told us that the main character, Toni, is like a little version of her younger self. Tomboyish, and adventure-seeking) The first thing I did after school that day, was borrow "Shattered Glass" from the library, and it will always stay in my Top 3 for the Secrets Series books. Compared to the other 6 books, Teresa Toten made hers unique by making it realistic, and it succeeded in having a huge 1960's vibe to it, which I loved. The story is extremely beautiful and life-lesson-like, and shatters your heart at the end. The best part is that all her chapters are names of songs from the 1900's, and there's also the burning of the Noronic ship too, which was something that actually happened in Canada's History right here in Toronto many years ago. I will eat all your cookies if you don't request this book right now.
