The plot is a bit confusing. Rincewind is in a land like Early Australia and he is pushed to be a hero even if he would rather run away. The Luggage has its own adventure while trying to find him. The wizards at the Unseen University are out looking for a missing magician and they manage to get lost, along with their female housekeeper. In spite of many surprises and high-jinks, everyone manages to find their way back to Ankh-Morpork's.

Pratchett's motley crew of wizards here takes on a place suspiciously like Australia, along with hot topics such as evolution, sheep stealing, beer consumption, and aboriginal paintings. All is accomplished with Pratchett's reliable dose of British hilarity. He will be missed.

This was a thoroughly entertaining story. Rincewind wasn't quite as annoying as usual, the wizards were even more hilarious than usual and lampooning Australia was highly amusing.

A good read - very sly funny humour. But also pretty surreal in parts and hard to follow.

As with much of Discworld, The Last Continent reflects our own world. In this case the 'Last Continent' satirizes Australia and many of the jokes may require some knowledge of Aussie in-jokes. As an Australian I found it very funny, but I'm not sure how well this would work for non-Aussies.

Love Discworld. Love Terry Pratchett. BUT be careful if you go on a Discworld bender and read too many in a row. Jokes get a little repetitive and thin. Probably would have liked this more if I had spent more time away from DW before reading it.
