Wholeheartedly humorous, character rich, Indigenous-centered, magical, and tricksterish read! Thomas King's heritage includes Cherokee, Greek, and Swiss German. If you enjoyed The Sentence by Louise Erdrich (a member of the Turtle…

This books takes a bit to get into. The story is told from multiple peoples points of view, some of whom are mythological, some of whom are not, and a few whose status is left unclear and up to the reader to decide. Because of the many…

This was King's second novel. I preferred his later novels. I gave up on this one. There didn't seem to be a plot emerging in the beginning of the book. The 1-3 page stories at the beginning seemed to be unrelated vignettes each with some…

I approach trickster tales with great glee, and this was no disappointment. Smartly written, it examines colonialism, the role of Native Americans in Hollywood, and other concerns both human and mythic through a lens that's at times…

I fell in love with this book in high school. Great for those who like strange books, books filled with allusions and commentary on colonialism, and magical realism.

hilariously serious the multi-layered conversations, the creation stories with coyote and the 4 Indians on the lam from the hospital - I had many laugh out loud moments.

It was interesting to see where the CBC Radio show ¨Dead Dog Cafe¨ came from. However I found the radio program much funnier than the book. With its limited vocabulary, the book felt more like a children´s story.

Green Grass, Running Water is really good. It’s very fragmented and I needed to get into the proper headspace to bounce around between all the different characters (and mythological versions of the story no one will let Coyote tell), but…

A serious topic written with much humour and some sarcasm. Great dialogue and unusual narration and but I occasionally felt its unusually disjointed structure made it difficult to follow through its various story lines and characters. …

There were so many parts to this book that I enjoyed and so many parts that left me confused. In general the 'magical' parts of the story were the most difficult for me to understand. The characters in this storyline blended together and…

Green Grass Running Water is a novel by Thomas King that connects both the spiritual and real world through real life problems. The book follows 4 major conflicts separately from chapter to chapter. Each one of these conflicts provides…

View with laughter the human condition as imposed by the society at large and the internal needs of the individual. We share much in common when we stand alone. Many wish to be individuals and still enjoy recognition from others (the so…
